Do step scores affect chances of matching categorical after a prelim yr?

I’m a DO student and only took Comlex. If I were to match/soap to a surgery preliminary position , would the fact that I did not take Step pretty much make my chances slim to non for obtaining a categorical position afterwards?

well DO programs are kind of different. You will need some luck though
