DO Students doing away rotations at ACGME programs

General question for all of you experienced students on this thread: how long does it take to set up/apply for all of the away rotations you want to do in your fourth year? And when (in the timeline of medical school) do you apply for said rotations?

It didn't take a lot of time to set up aways but I was ready ahead of time. You have to have all your vaccinations/health records, acls/bls, and other paperwork all ready to go and organized. After sending this stuff to my home site hospital and the 2 or 3 community sites where I rotated, I was basically done. I did not use vsas because coincidentally, all the IM programs near me (planning on staying local for residency) don't use it. I paid $50 for an application deposit to one program to hold my spot, but otherwise didn't pay anything extra for rotations.
