At times, I can concentrate to the max for a solid 2-3 hours. But then one side of my mind is like, "Cmon, lets get out of here!" While the other half is like, "Shut up, I'm still trying to learn this!"

So I listen to a little music, which actually seems to sub consciously entertain me a little and lets me get done what I need to get done.

Does anyone else listen to music when they study?

I always listen to music while studying. Dead silence at home is actually more distracting than listening to music, and studying at the library with endless sniffles and elevator chimes drives me nuts. The music, though, is always the same stuff; I never listen to anything new, because then I focus on the music instead of the studying. Damn ADD 😀

yeah, i think giving my brain multiple things to focus on helps to keep me from burning out. in total silence, i'm always like "did i get any emails, what's on tv, i'm hungry, i'm thirsty, i'll make some coffee as a break" but if i just have some music on, the part of my brain that gets bored with biochem can focus on the music and i can study for a lot longer.

I only listen to music on my mp3 player while studying in the library. i turn it up real loud because EVERYONE talks in my college library even in the so-called "Quiet Areas"

anything with math in it: Music on
anything with reading: Music off

Ha-ha, I thought I was the only weirdo that did that: music on w/ math and physics, off w/ everything else 😀

No, but I may try this next time and see if it helps.

Chemistry: music on and preferably some Billy Bragg or Wilco so I can feel like I am sticking it to the "man"--who could be a woman.
Reading: music I can't sing along to (Classical, Jazz, Burt Bacharach--not that I can't sing along, I just don't want to) 😉

ya, sigur ros goes well with any kind of studying. i usually dont listen to music for any kind of biological science. but for all my poli sci classes and chem classes i listen to music. i couldn't imagine ever writing a paper without music on. *shivers*

I'll take dead silence, thank you. Music destroys my concentration.

wow, i do the exact same thing. Good to know.

I do too! I figured since I dished out so much money on the HOPES of getting interviews/acceptances, I might as well spend a little on something I really like and I can really, tangibly own. A new 30gb iPod with video. It's currently on its way from China, yes!! So stoked. It will be perfect for the interview traveling season coming up... you know, cause flights from Hawaii to the US are very long and taxing.

Sweeeeeeeeeeeet!!! I can't wait to get mine too. Apple just so happened to put them on the floor yesterday when I was walking thru the mall after work. They're slim, sexy, and super cool. 😀

music when in the ****ty library so I dont have to think about being their. Otherwise I try to study outdoors, I concentrate 100x better outside for some reason..... Maybe because before i decided to be a studying hermit I was always in the woods lol.

epic bump award.

Pandora FTW!

That way I can listen to stuff without having to change the song/album constantly. The ads are getting pretty annoying though.

Woah epic flashback to when 30 gb ipods were awesome xD
