I have a question about students who get into medical school without a BS degree. Are there any schools out there that will accept a student who is a 3.9 GPA, and who has completed all the pre-reqs that are required for entrance into medical school, oh,and has completed the MCAT. Also, if he student has a Liberal Arts 2 yr. degree. I am curious, cuz I know at the university where I live they have accepted some students. I would be very thankful for any input!!!!

a b.s. is not required in any of the 7 schools in texas

The name of your degree does not matter: BS, BA, BFA... so long as you have satisified admission requirements. However, it is uncommon to be accepted without at least a baccalaureate.

Many medical schools, not just in Texas, will say the the degree is not required. That is true. But not required does not mean that most, or 50%, 25%, or even 1% of the accepted do not have a degree. Accepted without a degree can be expected to apply to special circumstances; those circumstances are rarely, if ever, published.

If you have are a Texan, go to school in Texas and have a premedical advisor, you should check with that person before you assume that you have correctly interpreted what seems to be a statement that permits of no other meaning than than the one you give it. You may be correct, but because of my general knowledge of medical school admissions, I say it is ambiguous. It does not in fact clearly state that just meeting the requirements, good grades, good MCAT scores, good interview (if you get one) will gain you acceptance without at least a baccalaureate degree.

1. There are combined BS-MD programs and for these you do not need a BS

2. If you mean you have a BA, BSc, BEng, BFA, then yes all of those are acceptable

3. Most schools say they will accept you without a bachelors but it is a rare exception.

4. Regardless, unless you are thinking of option (1) above you still need 90 credit hours. From your post you only mention a 2 year degree which would likely not add up to 90 credit hours.

Thanks for the input! By the time I finish the pre-reqs for most medical schools, and the MCAT I should have around 90 credits. I am not sure what I want to do, but I think I should look at all the options.

I had a separate question, I was hoping you guys could settle it for me.

My friend and I were debating whether, after getting a Bachelor's Degree, you could write it after your name (stupid I know, but it was for the sake of argument).

Is this true? Ex: John R. Doe, BS.

Or is this wrong?

i dont know UCSB, I only heard of people that went to prestigious schools that did that, like

John Doe, BS M.I.T 😉
