Do you need to be individually contracted with insurance when working for a hospital/other org?

I wanted to find out how contracting with insurance plans works in psychiatry. Say for instance I'm working for a hospital outpatient clinic or mental health services org/non-profit or in an inpatient setting. Do I have to go through the exact same contracting /credentialing process that would apply if I was working as a solo practitioner ?
