Do you need to get a letter of rec. in your preferred specialty? Do you need to have it third year?

So I got my rotation schedule and to my chagrin, my preferred speciality, even though it is a core (required) rotation is not in my schedule for third year. Schedules are not changeable.

Does this hurt my chances at all? Do you need to get a letter of rec. in your preferred during third year or can you get it during fourth year? I don’t really know how that stuff works yet.

I remember being told to have your interested speciality earlier in your schedule but I don’t think DO med students generally have control of their schedule third year.

Schedule it as your first or second rotation 4th year. You should be fine

Will do, thanks. I thought it would be strange to not be able to apply to a speciality you are most interested in because of scheduling you had no control in making.
