Do you need to know lots of math?

Do dentists need to know a lot of math? By a lot, I'm talking calculus and that kind of stuff.

Of course you do! What happens if a patient comes into your office one day and asks you for advice on how to solve this mathematical theorem. What are you going to do... tell him you don't know??? That doesn't invoke a lot of confidence in you as a servant to the public. 😉

You don't need to know calculus, but basic math, algebra, geometry.... yeah you probably need to know that stuff.

Actually its funny you mentioned this today. I was seeing a patient earlier this afternoon who was in high school calculus. They actually turned to me in the middle of their examination and asked:

Assume that y is a function of x . Find y' = dy/dx for x3 + y3 = 4

So there is your answer!!

I always thought math was the name of a mexican rugby team...

Predental forum, perhaps?

Funny you mentioned this: I was studying these types of problems for my final tommorow when I read this.

YOu should always know calculus. As Marge Simpson once said about going out with Homer instead of doing her calculus homework:

"Ever since that day, I haven't been able to do any of the calculus I've encountered in my daily life."
