Hi,
I just finished my first of 6 years at Jagiellonian University and now I'm back in the States for summer vacation. Well, during vacation we are supposed to be following nurses...but actually I just followed a doctor. But my question is: I followed a pediatrician and he wrote me a great letter to give the school about how well I did yadda yadda yadda, and now I'm trying to follow around an emergency physician. If I get a great letter from him and I keep collecting such letters from various doctors, will it have an impact when I'm applying for residency or do they not matter at all? Thanks for all the help! 🙂

I don't actually have an answer to your question, but I would think the letters wouldn't hurt.

I am just curious about Jagiellonian University...that is in Poland, right? I know nothing about the place, so I am just curious. What made you decide to go there? So you're planning on doing the six-year combined degree and then come back and practice in the US?

Cheers.

Well, I started by going to the University of Texas and doing a combined degree program there to get my BS in biology and masters in biomedical engineering....but after one year I got really bored with it. Since the whole goal was to eventually get to med school, I started looking at my options. Then one day I came across the Jagiellonian program (yup, in Poland) and the things that swayed my decision towards going there is: only high school graduation is required for the 6 year program, it's only 10,500 a year for tuition, my family lives pretty close to the school, my cousin is already in the university (but in the Polish speaking law school), and it would give me a chance to visit Europe in my off time...there are probably other reasons too but these are just the ones right off the top of my head at the moment. And I plan to come back to the States and practice...but where ever I wind up then let it be...whether it be stay in Poland, go to some poverty place, come back to the States....where ever will be fine with me because this is a way for me to help those how need it...but it would really be nice to be an emergency physician 😉 I hope this answered your question 🙂
