Medical Does a 233 Step score ruin chances for Ophthalmology?

Hey,
So i got a 233 on step but am still hoping for optho. I have EC activities and also a few papers (3-4) and presentations (1) in optho including a 2-3 first authors published in a prestigious journal. Did well in classes and am in top- mid percentile at a mid tier school. Should i give up because of my step score?

I don't think you need to give up. That being said, I think you should apply extremely broadly, and I think you're someone who needs to figure out a backup specialty that you'd be happy with.

Agree. Definitely apply. But pick a solid backup

I know it's not much guidance. Some things that have helped people I know match when they had lower than average boards: connections, research, connections, and connections. If you can make a connection with people at programs you are interested in through research or conferences, that will sometimes help.
