Does accepting a spot at one school affect offers from others?

Although there have been some stories surfacing that contradict this, I think the consensus is that med schools can see where you've been accepted once they have offered their formal acceptance through AMCAS. That being said, does anyone have any idea whether accepting a spot at one school might affect whether another school extends an offer?

I guess this boils down to debunking the consensus...as I'm a little hesitant to hold a spot knowing that I would rather re-apply than attend next year, sorta.

Rel has answered this question before. He does not take other universities' offers into consideration nor he does not know of any schools that do.
