I guess I didn't believe the rumors until my interview. Both my interviewer and student tour guide said if you want in write a gushy letter to Dean Frantz.

So I guess for Columbia this is a good strategy. They only interview people who they would be willing to take ,and only accept people who want Columbia over all other schools.

But what about if it's not your top pick? Has anyone out there been accepted without a letter of intent?

Plenty of people get in without a letter of intent.... at least that was the conclusion last year when we looked at the correlation between letter writers and admitees...

best of luck!

That's a bunch of bull. I didn't even know who Frantz was until I got here. A lot of people in my class wrote him letters becasue that's what they heard to do and now they pass it on like it's a magical formula to get in here. Do standard operating procedure and write a letter of appreciation to your interviewer. I won't lie. Frantz does have a lot of pull here but every year he gets plenty of flowery letters from applicants saying they'll come here if it means running through hell in gasoline underwear but they end up going somewhere else. A letter of intent wouldn't hurt if you end up on the waitlist, however.

agreed, for a waitlist it makes sense. Incidently I got in and didn't write a letter of intent or anything else...

Nice imagery! I'll have to remember that one.
