I was planning to take a semester off after the first semester of my junior year to just study mcats and to work. Does it look bad when I apply to schools after senior year?

Nope. They understand that not everyone can finish, for whatever reason, their bachelor's in 4 years.

I'm a 5th year myself, and applying this June. So I will have a year break while I wait for confirmation/denial.
