Does it look desperate sending a LOI or updates?

I'm on hold for interview for a school that i would really love to go to. Thus far, i've sent them a letter of intent and they said thanks, we'll add it to your file and it's been silent for about 2 wks or so. Is it okay to send them an update (i don't really have significant news, but some news) or should I just keep waiting patiently? They did say that they will be sending out interview invites in about a month or so.

What exactly is a letter of intent?

It's basically a letter you send to a school saying that if you're accepted, you'll definitely matriculate there. You shouldn't send one unless you are absolutely serious about going to that school. You should also only send a LOI to one school.

You've sent your LoI, that's good enough. An update at this point, unless it's something spectacular (something more than a publication), would probably be a bad idea.

Something MORE spectacular than a publication?! I think a publication would be pretty spectacular and would warrant an update letter...

Two weeks is not very long. I would definitely keep waiting, difficult as it is.
I agree. If you have the time to waste stressing over getting an interview - you should spend that time preparing for it instead.

Definitely do not send one. You just sent one 2 wks ago and they probably have not even gotten around to reading it along with your file yet. Sending another one will just be annoying.

If something super significant happens (e.g. winning a national award for undergraduate publications) then yes you should send another update. Short of that at this point more updates won't help.
