Does it matter what undergrad school you went to?

I have heard in various occasions that some dental/medical schools re-calculate your GPA based on what school you come from. For example, a 3.5 GPA from an ivy can be recalculated to something higher, just because it's harder to get good grades at those schools. Just curious, is this true? Has anyone heard something like this before?
Also, what difference does it make if you take most of your prerequisite courses at a community college and then transfer to a 4 yr university and finish your bachelors there? Does a CC education puts you at a disadvantage when compared to an applicant that went to a 4 yr school?

A 3.9 at a top 20 would probably be more favorable than a 3.9 at a state school, but they're not going to actually recalculate your gpa based on which school you went to

Keep in mind that a 3.4 at top 20 probably wouldn't be viewed as favorably as a 3.9 at a state school, there's no physical number added to your gpa that'll put both applications on the same level

If you take most of the prereq courses at a CC, try to take upperlevel courses at the four year university that will show your abilities to handle a science courseload. For example if you took general chemistry at the CC, take organic chemistry and biochemistry at the four year university, if you took general bio at the CC, take upper level bio courses like anatomy physiology, or microbiology at the university. If you are able to succeed with a heavy courseload at the four year university during your junior year, then going to a CC for the first two years won't matter to dental schools.

No, just make sure you have good grades, that's what counts more than anything.
