does slu highly consider relatives of former students?

hey guys, is there anyone waiting on SLU? I'm still waiting on a response from them, and classes start in August. I figured they could have rejected me by now if they wanted to, but then again, there is that interesting question on their secondary about being related to someone who is an alumni of SLU school of med (my sibling is a grad from there). i'm not expecting anything, since i havent even been interviewed yet. and there is probably a waiting list. but im hoping the fact that i have a relative that went there would help. yeah, that sounds bad, but id love to go there. i called them up and they say my application is still being reviewed....i really hope i get an interview man.

please share your opinions, or any info you may have on SLU....no haters please!

i thought that i was the only one who hadn't heard a thing pre-interview from them! i'd thought they lost my application or didn't like the fact that i'm an agnostic per my personal statement. oh well, i've moved on.

legacy does carry some weight to answer your question. best of luck!

joe joe,
thanks for your response. have you gotten in anywhere else? do you have a relative thats an alumni of slu?
my undergrad GPA was not stellar and thats probably wahts holding me back. but my MCAT was solid not great, i have tons of publications, tons of postbacc work with good numbers and should be getting a grad degree in the summer (if my committee isnt a bytch). i need some lottery style luck on my side. help me lord and i will do anything if i get in this mofo.

kittyjuice,
I'm sorry you haven't heard from SLU yet (pre-interview). I will refer you to another thread that gives some stats of people still on the slu waitlist and those who have gotten off that waitlist:

<a href="http://forums.studentdoctor.net/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=1;t=013409" target="_blank">http://forums.studentdoctor.net/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=1;t=013409</a>

Hopefully this will give you some idea of where you might stand in the applicant pool. I interviewed at SLU in early April and really loved the city and the school. Their curriculum structure is fairly unique (I believe) and they offer great opportunities for research (summer fellowships) through electives and time off after your first year, so that those of us who chose not to pursue MD/PhD can still continue working on research projects after undergrad. Best of luck to you, peace.

School Starts in a month. Did u get in anywhere else? If you haven't, start making alternative plans today, like fixing any deficiency and reapply.

KJ,

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but I am pretty sure SLU finished up interviews around the first week of June.

Best of luck....

according to another thread, SLU finished interviewing on June 11. Sorry! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Frown]" src="frown.gif" />

thanks for the post guys.....yeah, i wonder why they wont give me a straight answer when i call them up... they say, "your application is still being reviewed." and i was like, "so when can i expect to hear a response?" and they say "its possible at any moment."

so either they are having some serious drama filling the class or they are just giving me the run around. i dunno. i mean, im not expecting to get in, but it sure would be nice. i only applied to like 3 schools last minute because of extended deadlines due to AMCAS. i got rejected from the other two in a matter of weeks after sending the 2ndary.

but i read SLU med school magazine for alumni, and it had this huge thing on relatives that attended the SOM. i was hoping that could be me! haha, well, life goes on. things havent been going well and i dont really expect them to anyways. but thanks for your advice
