Does the oxygen uptake increase/decrease with training?

How does the oxygen uptake change during maximal work intensity in a fit and unfit individual? The heart rate will remain unchanged (in maximal work), but what about the oxygen uptake?

Of course HR would increase with work!!!
The only advantage of having a low basal HR in trained athletes is to have a higher reserve ( if your basal is 55 b/m then you can increase your HR 4X when you reach 220 while having a basal HR of 100 b/m would give you only another 100 (just 2X) with effort.
And if you mean by uptake oxygen extraction, then yes it will increase as the pressure gradient will increase with relative hypoxia of the tissues and the right shift of Hb oxygen dissociation curve ( lactic acid lowers the PH, high PCo2).

The heart rate during maximal work intensity should stay the same though (a fit individual and a not so fit individual would have the same heart rate - their maximal - during hardest work), but of course - the heart rate will increase until it reaches its maximal value for both individuals (we're assuming they are clones with same age, gender etc. with one of them being more fit than the other) which is a same maximal value.

With oxygen uptake I meant oxygen utilization by the body. So a fit individual would utilize more oxygen during max work intensity compared to a not so fit individual. I mean, it makes sense, right? A fit individual would have more muscle tissue which would create a bigger demand for oxygen, right?
