Hey guys, I am sorry if this seems like an obvious question, but I could find the answer anywhere on the USMLE, FSMB or NRMP websites.

Basically, I am a nontraditional residency applicant, did a IM residency, but now want to do another residency. I am three years out from allopathic medical school graduation in the US. My question is, since I plan on participating in NRMP for the 2016-2017 cycle, do I need to retake any of my USMLE tests? I took step 1 in 2011, step 2 in 2012, and step 3 in 2014. Is there a statute of limitations on USMLE, whereby I have to take the licensing tests again after a certain number of years has passed?

Thank again in advance for your responses

As far as I know, you cannot repeat any USMLE step if you've already passed. There are states that require you to complete all steps within a specified time frame. In Texas, for instance, you have 7 years, with some exceptions. After that, you cannot get a full medical license. Check your state to make sure you're not in violation.

He already completed all four parts of USMLE (finishing step 3 in 2014) and is eligible for a full license, especially since he has completed a residency. His question is related to residency programs accepting scores that are old, given that he wants to go and complete an additional residency. Similar to needing to retake the MCAT if you took it more than 5 years prior to matriculation.

You can repeat them if it has been more than 7 years since you passed it and you haven't completed the full 1-ck-cs-3 sequence. Once you've completed the sequence within a 7 year time span, you're good forever.
