Right now, I'm mid-author out of 25 authors in a paper that's being submitted to Science.
I joined the lab last year, and this was the result of one semester of work. I got extremely lucky with my mentor and the timing, so I was able to produce some data for him (this paper wasn't even the main focus of what I did).
I was not involved in any form of writing the paper, I only provided data and just happened to luck out and got my name on there. Would this still be considered being published?
