So my Dell Laptop all of a sudden turns off on me. I try to power back on but no dice. When I hit the power button, the caps lock/num lock light up briefly, and the power light is on for 3 seconds before it goes off.

The drives don't spin, nor do the fans.

Dell Tech Support diagnosed it as a failed motherboard. I'm having a few of my IT friends look at it tommorrow but I was just in the market for an opinion from the smarties here.

Sounds like the right diag. to me. Even if it is just a PSU failure, the PSU are integrated onto laptop motherboards, so it's still a MB replacement either way.
