I was looking on MDapplicants to see the GPA/MCAT scores close to what I expect to have (GPA lower than I know I would get normally since I had a baby my first year and the UK has a very different and more difficult grading system) and it seems that UMass (my state school) won't accept people with a GPA lower than 3.4 and MCAT less than 35... at least not the MDapplicants. But Tufts, Harvard and BU (the other med schools in MA) have accepted students with less than those stats... doesn't it seem a bit odd or is it just me?

And does anyone know of a site that has the stats of all accepted applicants to med schools?

MDapps is not really the entire incoming class, just those that cared to have an MDapps profile. Maybe a greater number of students going to Tufts/Harvard/BU have these profiles, giving those schools a more realistic average. And it looks like that more of the top students at UMass have these profiles.

I would check out the MSAR or US News book for a better GPA/MCAT assessment for each school.

:luck:

skewed sample! many only fill it out if they have really awesome stats or are an underdog...although I wish I found it earlier as it seems a good way to keep track of your application process for your own use...

ps. hi berkeley^^

While agreeing with the previous posts, I'd also say that UMass is a really competitive medical school to get into. Think about it. All MA residents that are applying to schools apply there, pretty much. Also most applicants are aware of the fact that they only take MA residents, and so you don't get the same number of applications, let alone from a largely varied background like BU or Tufts will get. It is the only MA state school, so they also probably believe that if people are accepted, they probably want to go there (although half their class last year was off the wait list, so I'm not sure about that), which means they feel they can be a lot more selective if they want to.

According to US News, the average GPA at UMass is 3.6 and avg MCAT is 10.5 per section. I got in with a 33 on my MCAT, so they definitely take ppl with lower than a 35.
