I am doing a preliminary medicine year right now and am really enjoying it. After not matching into dermatology last year, I plan on reapplying this year, but also would be equally happy at this point doing internal medicine (so I am applying to categorical medicine programs as well). My question is assuming I do match in derm, can I potentially re-do a prelim medicine year (and apply for a few through ERAS?). I know I could also try to find a research position for a year, but I would rather have the certainty of having a secured position on match day for next year.

I assume you've asked your prelim PD if you can stay. That's the easiest/best approach. Another prelim year would be dumb.
