While i was watching the PASS Usmle Videos (By Dr.Francis) He mentioned that The neurons that arise from the Nucleus Gracilis ( Which represents the Lower Limbs ) goes to the VPM, and the Nucleus Cuneatus fibers goes to the VPL ... On The Kaplan DVD's Dr.White says that ALL THE FIBERS from both nuclei ( Gracilis & Cuneatus ) goes to the VPL ... we are talking Dorsal Column-medial meniscal-pathway ... Could you help me out guys please ?

Thank you so much

Nerve fibers for the dorsal column pathways make their way to the VPL.
(mechanosensory afferent fibers from the body -> dorsal colums -> nucleus gracilus/cuneatus (synapse to 2nd order neurons -> medial lemniscus -> VPL of thalamus (synaps to 3rd order neurons) -> cortex.)

Pain from the body also goes to the VPL.

The VPM of the thalamus receives pain and mechanosenory inputs from the trigeminal nerve.

DrFraud is correct.

I prefer "Posterior" rather than "dorsal". we're talking people, not animals 🙂

DrFraud, thanks for your answer. i really appreciate it. Both Gracilis & Cuneatus heads to the VP(L) only. Its good i didnt memorize the wrong version lool

Dear MedLover, you are right, i also prefer to use Post. insted of Dorsal. But what can you do ? if its on the USMLE, it is sacred ... lol

Kind regards,
