Guys, I need big time help here. How in the world do I get from Downstate to Valhalla? Is it possible via cab? How about if I fly? I have those two set up back to back.

And where should I fly into (airport?) if I'm trying to get to Downstate in the most efficient/quickest manner?

🙂

Cab will cost you a bajillion dollars. Your best bet is probably amtrak or some kind of rail service. I'm not sure of the route myself but look at the schedule of trains for amtrak and metro north. Also look for directions on the NYMC website. From downstate take the 4/5 train to grand central and go from there.

From Downstate you can walk to the 4/5 Train Station which is about 4 to 5 blocks away (haha just a coincidence). Take the train for a bit until you get to 42nd St. Grand Central in Manhattan. It's a major, major stop so you'll notice when everyone gets off. Then from Grand Central take the Metro-North rail service to Valhalla. After you arrive in Valhalla just use a taxi service to get you to the NYMC campus.

🙂

The Harlem line of MEtroNorth stops in Valhalla only when it is local. However all the Harlem line trains go to White Plains. you can take a taxi from white plains too, and its about the same price.

How long to get from JFK airport to Downstate Med by taxi?

I have never actually gone from JFK to that area of brooklyn. However, from the distance, without traffic, I think that it would take anywhere from 30-45 min. However, It really depends on traffic. Sorry I couldnt be more help.

I flew into LaGuradia, went to Valhalla and then back to Manhattan all last week. This is how I did it:

From La Guardia to Valhalla:
1) Transport Bus from Airport to Grand Central Station ($12)
2) Metro North Railway to Whte Plains ($8.50 Peak Hour)
3) Cab to NYMC ($12)

From Valhalla to Manhattan:
1) Cab from NYMC to White Plains Train Station ($12)
2) Metro North Railway to Grand Central Station ($6.50 off peak hour)
3) Cab from Grand Central to Weill MC / Upper East Manhattan. ($8.50)

I'm not sure if this is the best way because I had never been to New York, but overall it wasn't too bad traveling this way. Good Luck.

I know the NY subway is called the MTA, so the website, where I'm sure they have a Trip Planner (the CTA here in Chicago does at least) would probably be www.mta.com.
