any thoughts? i am going for an interview that starts at 10:45 -- i have a car.. but would it be more convenient to take the train or drive? any yalies to offer some insight?

I would definitely take the train and a cab from the train station to the med school. Parking in New Haven sucks. I can't tell you how many tickets I got in the first 3 years I was there until I decided to ditch the car completely.

Take the train. It'll be so much more relaxing! Also, the cab ride from the station to Yale campus will be pretty cheap ($6, or so)
Also, a word to the wise: the Yale admissions building is set back far from the street, slightly behind an outdoor children's playground. Because of its location and the fact that the street number isn't clearly visible, you might think you're in the wrong place. Just relax- as long as you see that playground, you're right where you belong.

Train...The drive is an hour to an hour and a half and parking is baddd.

i agree, take the train.
metronorth from grand central to union station is 116 minutes. the taxi ride is about 7 minutes. in other words, catch the 8:04 or the 8:32 and you should be golden. peak fares apply at those times, so the fare should be $18 for the train and $7 for the taxi.
on the way back, you can catch the purple line shuttle in front of the library http://www.yale.edu/parkingandtransit/shuttle/dayshuttles.htm to save on taxi fare. offpeak metronorth will cost you $14.
