hey guys i'm planning to do a dual program (oral surgery - maxi facial). does anyone know if you would apply taken both the DAT or MCAT or just one of them? i looked at the program and Nova but wanted to know what others were (there are not a lot).

is it generally 4 years dental school then 6 year surgical residency?

You need to first get into dental school (take the DAT), then you you take the CBSE while in dental school (step 1 equivalent; as well as all of the dental board exams), stay around top 10 of your class, and then go to residency after matching into a program. A program can be 4 years, or 6 years if you want an MD to go along with your DDS/DMD.

Dental school is 4 years. Residency another 4 or 6 years.

If you want to go into a fellowship after residency, usually an MD is preferred.

I think it's one of the best medical or dental careers out there. Great pay, great procedures, hasn't been overcome by corporations like medicine, and a balanced lifestyle. Good luck.

Also, just as a heads up, oral and maxillofacial surgery is one discipline.
