I'm starting my 3rd year doing a family practice rotation. July 4th falls on a Thursday this year. Do you think I'll be given Friday, July 5th off too? I'd sure love to get out of town for a 4-day weekend.

Are you sure you have July 4th off? Not every service gives students or residents holidays off (although I suspect FP might). I'd ask some of the 4th years at your school how lenient the residents were on holidays. Don't go making plans, but its likely that unless there are some big clinics or something on July 5, you'll be able to enjoy a lengthy weekend.
