Earliest Wake Forest interview?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I had one for next week, but I had to change date on it. Hope that helps.

That's a broad question and I'll give you my opinion 🙂

I think the school is great, I'm very happy that I came here. I'm a 1st year currently (7 weeks into it). So far I like the curriculum, it's an integrated approach to the core sciences. The exams are not simple regurgitation of material, instead it's applied knowledge.
We are currently doing Human Structure and Development which includes, gross anatomy, microanatomy, embryology, neuroanatomy and radiographic anatomy.
Patient contact is from the very beginning. Have the class will go the the wards the first week, the other half will have a physical examination course, where you'll learn to perform a complete PE. It then rotates the following week. By patient contact, I mean you will interview your first patient that week. It builds during the year and every other week you will see a different patient and the interviews will get progressively longer and more detailed. It's a great experience. The is a lot of small group sessions with your classmates and two faculty leaders. The main small group meets twice a week and you will discuss clinical cases with each other guided by the faculty. This small group is also your group for gross anatomy. Speaking of GA, the gross labs have been revamped and every table has an air filtration system. You will not notice a heavy smell. They may take you to the gross labs during your tour. Exams are every 3 weeks and grading is Honors, Pass, Low Pass and Fail.

Advice about the interview: Arrive early!!!!!! The medical center is a maze, you can get lost easily. Relax Relax and Relax, (I know easier said than done). But you've already been pre screened so you have a very good chance.
Places to stay: Hawthorne or Comfort Inn. I think hawthorne has a shuttle to the med center. There should be lots of 1st and 2nd years around the place.

What day is your interview?
Congrats again

Hey Gohan, thanks for all the info on Wake!

I've got a couple questions that you might be able to answer... How do the first and second interview pools work (how do you know which one you're in)? And is it true that if you're in Wake's first interview pool, it means that you will at worst be waitlisted?

Hi deez,

I'm not sure about the whole interview process (which I know would be most helpful to you). I know that Wake pre-screens and b4 sending a secondary. Once you've been invited, I think that your chances of being accepted are very good. Even if you are waitlisted your chances of an eventual acceptance are good. I have no knowledge of the first or second pool thing. If you are in either one and you do like Wake Forest, the number one advice is to show your interest.

Sorry I know that didn't help much

Gohan, thanks so much for your help....a couple more questions:

1) how many hours a day are you "in class". i know some schools basically end around noon, and some go until 5 (like vandy). where does wake fall?

2) is there anythign fun to do in winston-salem??

thanks!!

also for deez - what are these applicant pools you're talking about? interesting....would we be in the 1st pool since we're interviewing so early?

The hours vary each day but I'll break down a typical week
Mondays and Fridays are the longest generally and depends on whether you have small group clinical cases at 1pm or 3

Monday and Friday
8am -12pm (a mix of lectures and lab
12-1 is lunch
1-3pm for small group clinical cases and you're done

Tuesday / Thursday vary on your personal schedule
Some classmates finish on tuesday at Noon
others have Physical exam or Patient interviewing from 1-3
Those who finish at noon on tuesday have one of the other 2 classes on thursay

Wednesday finish at noon

So there is a fair amount of "free" time

WS is a quiet town, it won't be confused with a big city 😉

Last year, I know Wake had different interview pools they selected interviewees from. And supposedly if you were in the first pool, then you were immune to getting a rejection letter. Dunno exactly how that works though.
