Quick question. Until when is it considered "early" to submit the amcas app? I'm planning on submitting it in the next couple of days after some final tweeking of the personal statement. I've heard everything from June to end of July. What's the consensus on this board? Thanks!

I'd say you were about right - June and July are 'early' and then August starts getting a little touchy. I think getting everything in by about now, the secondaries through July and August and into September and you're looking pretty good.

But there are exceptions to every rule and things aren't written in stone.

i've been told that june and early july are considered "early," mid-july to august is intermediary, and getting into september is officially "late."

well, at least that's how it is according to my premed advisor 🙄 , so those i'm sure there's a varying amount of flexibility in those dates.

My pre-med advisor told me it's considered late after June for state schools. I knew someone who got into my state school in early September last year, so they move quickly.

awsome. thanks for the help guys. I plan on submitting mine tomorrow after some more tweeking of the essay. I figure submit it tomorrow, start getting secondaries by august. should turn out alright. thanks again for the input!

I'm hearing most schools won't receive applications until the middle of July, so technically, you're very early if you submit soon.

AAK

Hey all,

I realise this may be a stupid question but I was wondering how taking the August MCAT affects you and the primary application? I mean don't the schools recieve it but will not look at your AMCAS application since you haven't got an MCAT score (they pretty much put it on 'hold')? Don't we get the scores back sometime in October, so it doesn't really matter whether I submit it early or do some schools send you the secondaries anyway and just wait till you (and they) get the score? I am filling my AMCAS stuff (and I plan on getting it in by mid-july latest) but am taking the MCAT for the first time in August and was just wondering. I realise I'm probably screwed in that I'll be applying later than most, but I just wanted to hear your views--is it advantageous to get you AMCAS verified early even if you haven't got a score? I'm assuming it is.

Sorry for the longwinded post, I tried to make a search to check if it's been covered before (I'm sure it has!) but it's pretty d@mn late and I'm too tired to wade through all the possibilities right now. I'll try again tomorrow! Anyway, I appreciate your input and good luck to everyone applying!
