Throughout the first two years of study, students also have a longitudinal experience in the newly created offering, The Physician, the Patient and Society... The Physician, the Patient, and Society provides students with an introduction to the behavorial components of health and disease... The students starts on the road toward clinical excellence with a systematic introduction to basic clinical processes and a preceptorship in the office of a practicing physician. They combine acquisitin of knowledge about these processes-the medical encounter, prevention, physical diagnosis and ethics- with the practice of skills that underlie succesful doctoring. The preceptorship is the student's "laboratory" to observe and to experiment with new knowledge and skills.
