Hello. I'm new to SDN forum, and I am quite concerned about my ECs.
Freshman year: Research, 1 paper published (worked there since junior year in high school), American Medical Student Association Pre-Med, Deaf Club
Summer after freshman year: Tutored deaf elementary students in Africa for 6 weeks, approximately a month shadowing an orthopaedic surgeon
Sophomore year: a secretary at Deaf Club, AMSA Pre-Med, volunteered at Thoracic Cardiovascular Post Operative Unit at the hospital 3 hours each week (assisted staff with administrative tasks in a chaotic environment and had moderate patient contact)
Summer after sophomore year: Summer Medical and Dental Education Program (6-week preparatory program with medicine-related learning seminars and some clinical exposure through small-group clinical rotations)
Junior year: Vice-president at DEAF club, AMSA Pre-Med, volunteering at Surgical Intensive Care Unit (interacting with patients and assisting staff with errands, high patient contact)
Are my ECs good enough for US medical schools? Do I need more clinical experience? Do I need to join more student organizations? Do I need to do more shadowing? Also, what do pre-meds do in the summer after their junior years? I'd really appreciate your comments!
