I'm curious/concerned...does interviewing late only hurt you if all the spots are filled/all immediate acceptances are given out? Or does interviewing late even when there are still spots hurt you because they are more stringent when it comes to giving out the spots that are left?

In other words, do med schools use pretty much the same criteria to accept/waitlist/reject throughout the interview process until the class is full, and then after the class is full just relegate those they would otherwise accept to the top of the waitlist?

Any insight would be appreciated.

You can absolutely still get in without a problem interviewing late. I was complete for like 4 months last year at WashU before I got an interview. I almost turned it down thinking it was too late in the year, etc. I interviewed the day after the Superbowl, and I got in. So approach all interviews, late or not, the same.

If a school is interviewing you, there is a chance at acceptance. A school wouldn't waste its time otherwise. I wouldn't read more into it than that. Different schools use the waitlist differently, have different turnover etc.
