May 15 is coming up soon and I recently received my financial aid package (if that's what it should be called) from Einstein.

I would like some opinions on choosing between Einstein and Downstate. With Downstate, my debt will be between 85-100K. With Einstein I will be facing from160-190K in loans. I like both programs and with the loans in mind, I am leaning towards Downstate. I wish I did not have to make a decision based only on finances. I like Einstein alot but Downstate makes more sense. I am going to be 27 later this year and I do not want to put myself in that great a hole financially. Is Einstein worth this amount of debt? I still would like to consider residencies out-of-state and it looks like there are quite a few Downstate grads who place outside of NY.

Hey Kleon,
I'm waitlisted at Einstein and on"hold" at Downstate, but I have been pondering that as well. I got great feedback from both schools, I liked the class and grading format at both places. I think the issue is residency placement, and to me Einstein's is only slightly better than Downstate, probably not warranting the extra $100K (and that will turn into $200K by the time you are able to pay it all back). Just my 2 cents

I am holding an acceptance to Downstate and still waiting to hear from Einstein. Personally, I think the facilities are MUCH better at Einstein. However, during my interview at Einstein, the interviewer herself gave me the advice that I should choose downstate over Einstein if i get in because of the finanial issue. Though, if I get into Einstein, I would choose it over downstate because I think the students there are more motivated and the environment is better. As for the loans, they are just number games...I'm gonna be screwed with payments either way, so why not choose the better one.
