How does the EK 101 Verbal compare to the real MCAT in difficulty? Am I just being irrationably insecure thinking EK 101 passages are easier? The questions are challenging for sure, but somehow I feel the passages aren't that hard to read altogether. Does anyone think AAMC passages are harder to read?

most people score 1-2 points higher on their AAMC tests over the EK on average... but that's just the way they score things, and the type of questions they have. In general I find the EK verbal passages to be much too interesting to read, there seems to be not a single boring one in there. On Kaplan they usually throw in a couple that will take all your energy to concentrate on, just like on the real thing

Yeah man, I didn't miss a single question on the passage about potty training. And there's one on sex too. I only wish the real MCAT will talk about the sociological consequences of deviant sexual behavior. Then I'll ace that passage.

They are fairly close to the real thing. Especially the ambiguous questions you get after the passage. I think EK really has that down better than any other prep company.

I mostly agree with UMP

My opinion is the EK question difficulty is the closest to AAMC than Kaplan by far.

EK tends to have a lot more interesting passages and less dry academic passages than you will find on most AAMC practice MCATs, real deal, or other verbal prep. Kaplan usually has at least 2-3 difficult passages but their question format just does not seem to match up well to AAMC.

Overall I think EK compares very well since I think you can develop concentration with any material but learning to interpret questions requires a source comparable to the real deal.

Look at the 30+ thread. You can succeed with any verbal as long as you make it to the AAMC Verbal exams. The real MCAT has 2 passages with 10 questions each and this may be a surprise so have a strategy for that:do them last/first or give no special treatment. I think the AAMC parctice verbal exams are this way as well.

Might these two passages with extra questions correlate with relatively easier to read passages, or easier to answer questions? They may be designed to scare people, and have them skip them, to go for shorter ones, but they may actually be the key to an extra point on the MCAT verbal. I'll pay attention to those in the practice AAMC's and see if there is a correlation. If there is, these 10 question passages should deserve no special treatment, or we could even do them first!

I am starting to use EK101, and I absolutely stink at verbal. Let's see how much I can improve by following EK101

thats for the old mcat, as tman said this is a 5 year old thread, and the actual mcat wont have any passage with 10 questions
