EM 4th year elective: charity/LSU vs. UC davis

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Hi! I did a fourth year elective in Emergency Medicine at Davis. I had a wonderful experience. Usually it was 12 hour shifts and 15 shifts per month. Shifts are fairly busy. You see a great variety of cases including a fair amount of trauma. You get to work fairly independently and yet there definitely a good team feeling. Everyone is very helpful.
Teaching is excellent. The faculty really seem to like students and the residents are great about teaching as well.
I had a wonderful month and would definitely recommend it.

I have a friend who is a first year EM resident at Charity. If you get a chance, do an elective there. It's unlike anything you will ever see in your life. In some ways its as close to third-world medicine as you can get. This is a hospital that has "walk-in" trauma. Definitely worth a look. Very DO friendly too if that's a consideration.

drusso,
sorry, more questions. your friend at charity, what does he think of the residency program at LSU so far? and reputation wise, is LSU respected in the EM community?

thanks again.
