I have heard that if a school is one of your top choices u should try and get in touch with the dean or somebody important before your application is complete to show just how interested you are. How does this work? some people have even suggested to visit the schools and try to meet with the dean. just wondering what kind of things u need to write/talk about if you are currently applying. would it be okay to just write a simple short message saying who you are/where from/stats/how interested

any help appreciated... thanks

I would love to know the answer(s) to this one

Good question. Has anyone applying to med school met with the dean of admissions of any of the schools? and , what sorts of things do you talk about at these meetings?

I have and it was really nice and relaxed. This Dean asked me questions about my background, undergrad experience, MCAT, GPA, my undergrad class size, etc. Very chill.

I've never met with the dean, but I have met with the admissions director. I've met with him a couple times within the past year and have sent him emails to update him on my activities. Now he knows who I am and is very encouraging whenever I contact him. All I did was get his email off the website and email a request for an appointment that first time. At our school, the director chooses who gets interviewed, although he has no official vote when making final decisions. It may be beneficial for you to try and meet with someone to show your interest in the school. Don't be intimidated at all either. I remember the first time I met with the director I was literally wringing my hands because he was so stern and critical of my past work. But now he is very nice and friendly and complements me on what I've done to strengthen my app. Good luck!
