I have a feeling that one really can't understand embryology in med school. I feel like one simply memorize what is going on. Reason being it can be very complex. What are your views

No no no... you have to undertsand and be able to visualize it. Try Simbryo, or find some other flash animatlions of what's going on... it's very easy if you can make it into a movie in your head.

I wouldn't say its easy - embryo is kind of like a little slice of hell. The visualization isn't bad, but there are tons of things that go with it. I agree with videos. I'm finally starting to get it.

Simbryo comes free with some textbook. I know it's no help but I can't remember the name of the text. maybe you can look in your school's library.

I *loathe* embryo with a passion. But this website is a great help.

It actually explains stuff. Very pretty graphics too

scroll down to embryology. Some cool sites there.

Hope that helps with this miserable subject. Ugh.

The problem with embryo is that it is both cellular and biochemical at the same time. Don't sweat it if it doesnt make sense. I took embryo last year and it still doesnt make sense. Most people forget it untill they relearn the high yield portions for Step 1.

The text book is Langman's medical embryology. I have the text book without the CDRom. Is it worth spending $60 on a book I already have to get Simbryo. I'm willing to buy it if its really a good help. Anyone have information on the usefullness of simbryo vs just the textbook?

I don't learn a thing in embryo. Pure memorization of disparate pieces of info and regurgitation come test time. Btw I touched Simbryo once, I wish I had just left it sealed.

I took Developmental Bio my senior year of college. I hated it, I did well, but I was basically memorizing for the test. It was the only thing listed as a Molecular Bio elective that I could take. Hopefully, it'll have some good use. I think our embryology is integrated into anatomy because we don't have a separate course.
