We are pleased to announce that the ACGME has granted us approval for a 1,2,3, format residency in emergency medicine at Case Western Reserve University, University Hospital, Case Med Center, Cleveland Ohio. We will select 8 residents per year. We are all very excited about starting this program. We are recruiting now for our residents to start in June 2009.
The emergency medicine program provides an excellent combination of what we do best as University Hospitals, combining an excellent adult and pediatric emergency medicine experience with our high quality intensive care units. Academic, consensus style/EBM journal clubs, innovative use of our simulation center, a longitudinal EMS experience involving Critical Care Transport and decontamination, and an resident directed case based ethics project and symposium will make for a highly original program. We will be on ERAS by next week and participate in NRMP. We are able to take residents with advanced training. More information is on the residency catalogue at www.saem.org. Please pass the word onto other medical students and residents about our new program.

Congrats, and as an M3 I'd say that's really great. With that said, it kinda seems like there's a lot of new residencies opening lately . . . . . .

- I could be very wrong here, but it doesn't seem to me like this is a "new" residency.

- The link above takes you to the Case Western Reserve Emergency Med. Residency program's "Meet the Residents" page. If they have PGY-3s listed there, then it doesn't seem like it's "new" at all.

EDIT: http://www.saem.org/saemdnn/ResidencyCatalog/Ohio/RCClevelandUH/tabid/1156/Default.aspx

- This takes you to the SAEM page, where it states that this is a brand-new program. Conclusion: I'm confused. Someone clarify ?

SECOND EDIT: Sorry, but I was wrong. This is distinctly different than the other "Case West." residency. Good to see new residencies opening. Lord knows we need 'em.

Yes, just to clarify, there are two programs now in EM in Cleveland, both affiliated with CWRU: the MetroHealth/Cleveland Clinic program, and the University Hospitals program. Just like Detroit has multiple residency programs affiliated with Wayne state. The MetroHealth/CCF program is 17 years old and that's the link that you're following above.

Just put in my application for the program, thanks for the heads up
