Hi folks,

I unfortunatly did not match to a program this year. I really, really, want to go into Emergency Medicine. However I have two strikes against me.

1) I am Carribean grad ( US citizen)

2) My board scores are not the best.

Now, maybe I am a little to Optomistic. But I believe that if you want something, you CAN find a way to accomplish it.... will theres a will theres a way.

I think I may half a family medicine residency set up.... but this is my question...

Do EM programs look favorable upon accepting someone just out of a family medicine program? And if so do they ever accept some of your rotations from family Residency to go toward EM?

If anyone has any other suggestions for me I would love to hear!

Do a search for PandaBear and read his blog. It will answer your questions.

There are tons of folks in the past that have asked this same question. There certainly IS a way, sometimes it can be quite convoluted of a path though. However, if you are willing to put in the time and effort, it certainly is possible. As for an FP residency, it sounds like you are thinking of completing that and then applying for EM. Some will say that people don't want to hire someone that has trained in another specialty but PDs like BKN talk about how many FP trained docs have entered his program. I have come to meet many such residents along the interview trail. As for EM programs accepting FP rotations, I think 6 months is the maximum that will be accepted. This was discussed in a previous thread.

Do well in your FP program and show that you are a good doc although your application didn't pull through the first time. That seems to be the message in the tons of previous threads on this exact topic in the past. Good luck.
