Hi all,
I have a question about the employment contract review.

Is it better to consult with an attorney from the state where one wants to practice, compared to an attorney located elsewhere?

If anyone knows of a good employment contract attorney for the state of Iowa please let me know.

Your inputs are appreciated

Thanks,

If at all possible, consult an attorney familiar with local law. If you don't know anyone, ask an attorney you do know in your area if they or their partners can recommend someone.

Things like the enforceability of restrictive covenants are very different, depending on your particular set of circumstances

first is this even a negotiable contract? If not don't waste your money. Most large hospital systems are going to give you a standard contract that you won't be able to change. small groups, private practice is another story

The links below provide some information about negotiating a medical employment contract from the perspective of a physician who is also an attorney.

caveat emptor.

I'd call Michelle Lally in Pittsburgh. She is the kindest, most honest, and best prepared contract atty I've met.

Disclosure: She has reviewed my contracts in the past (2005-2007).
