Hello All,

Now that it's May, it's time to get the ball rolling for the upcoming endo cycle.
Let's keep this thread current with everything related to the application cycle/interviews/acceptances.
Best of luck to all!

What are things that can be done to make ones self competitive throughout dental school? For those of you applying

-Keep yourself decently high in your class rank
-Attend the AAE and be involved in anything endo-related
-Get to know endo faculty
-Have a decent idea that you actually like endo... specialists don't do the nice, easy cases. They get the cases that give GPs nightmares.

Unfortunately, though, when it comes to endo, the strongest assets are having private practice/GPR/AEGD experience. A lot of programs won't even consider applicants applying while still in dental school. Some students still get accepted of course, but that is definitely the minority

good luck to everyone.

For anyone who went to AAE, how are you incorporating that into your resume? Just a line stating you attended AAE?

I listed AAE student member under professional memberships and wrote something like “attended 2017 AAE annual conf in New Orleans” as a description

Hello,

Good luck to everyone here. Do we want to keep an ongoing list of interview dates like they did last year?

When is everybody aiming to have their application submitted by?

If you are applying to Maryland, just a heads up so no one wastes money like me: the e-mail address for submitting documents is incorrect and actual one is postgradadmissions @ umaryland . edu (spaced because I can't post it otherwise).

Maryland is a good program and Dr. Tordik is very nice if you don't mind 3 years of training and a little expensive COA

Thank you for the insight. I hope my comment didn't come across wrong. I just didn't want anyone to accidentally pay to send board scores to the wrong e-mail address while they are updating the website.

No worries. the admin staff at Maryland are not very responsive to candidates so you need to follow up closely with them regarding your application. Some programs; eg, Louisville, St Louis, started inviting in June so you need to get everything in the first week of PASS opening to maximize your chance. Good luck!!!

Hi! I am applying this cycle and am planning on taking the ADAT in a week and a half. Anyone have any insight on how important one's ADAT score is?

Maybe this is ambitious of me, but I am trying to have my apps in by next week. This is a screenshot of UoP's Admissions site, and it's a *little* concerning:

upload_2018-5-25_22-11-11.png

Why is this concerning?
Their deadline is July 11, 2018. That's about 1.5 months to submit, and have them review one's application (and maybe a few hundred others more) before interview invites are offered.

SystemB, those school deadlines are meaningless. Last year, I got my interview invite from Pacific on 06/27/17. if you waited until July 11 to complete, you would likely be out of the game at that point. Aim to submit everything as soon as PASS opens... I finished my PASS application around June 14 last year but i was still not early enough for Louisville and St Louis, go figure...They literally sent interviews out on June 15 or so

Good luck to everyone applying this cycle- Endo is the best kept secret in dentistry/medicine!

I used to not like endo in dschool cuz it is kind of repetitive and predictable....Now after breaking my back doing general for a few years, it turns out it aint that bad to be predictable. Pts dont like to pay for dental service (but they dont mind paying to get their hair/ nails done) until they are in severe pain - it is the marketing point of endo.

I agree with MidwestOwl, I would disregard any deadlines and submit your applications and supplementals as early as possible. Some people had interview invites by late May with programs being filled as early as late June. So getting stuff in early is very important in my opinion.

@MidwestOwl and @DrDientes, exactly why I was saying that UoP's deadline was concerning given that most programs have rolling admissions. Are either of you current residents or recent Endo grads? I'm trying to get a feel for the what makes an applicant stand out and the likelihood of getting into a program.

Anyone know what it means when it says submit NBDE scores to PASS? San Antonio says that but I have no idea how to do that?

Also San Antonio says submit "official" transcripts to Pass... how?

Your official NBDE Scores should be submitted by your dean who is providing the Institution Eval Form. Although some programs want Official scores sent to them.

Have your dental school send official transcripts to ADEA PASS. There is a section on your PASS application that gives you the information on where to send the transcripts. Once ADEA gets them in the mail it takes them like 10 bus days to upload them. Hope that helps. I am super frustrated as the only thing holding up my application are my official transcripts being uploaded to PASS. They wont even get them till the end of next week June 8 probably and it will take them 10 more bus days to upload, so my application wont be complete till last week of June most likely.

I called ADEA Pass about the transcripts today & they said as of this morning, no applicant's transcript has been uploaded to ADEA because it will take approximately 10 business days from the day you sent them in, so we're all in the same boat.

FYI, I was also informed by PASS that ADAT scores will not be uploaded until September. Not sure if this has been mentioned elsewhere.

Big Hoss

Thanks for the info. I just wish my school could send my transcripts digitally instead of using snail mail and the fact that they took 7 days to put it in the mail.

I also learned that when you upload your CV make sure its a PDF when you do. If its a word document the formatting might look wonky when you view it.

My school wont formally publish our updated GPA or rank until June 22. Their lack of urgency is not helpful to my application :(

I saw PASS processed my transcript so everyone else's should soon. Good luck to all.

My transcripts were received by PASS as well! I guess it doesn't take them that long to process them. Submitted my application today and mailed off the secondary application checks.

Hi guys! How was your ADAT scores? I graduated long time ago and I did really bad. :(

When looking at the score interpretation guide from ADA, it looks like the scores associated with each percentile are comparable from 2016-2017 so I anticipate 2018's will be similar. That should help you understand where you stand but as Big Time Hoosier stated previously, it's a bit unclear on what score is considered competitive.

For the optional 2x2 how is everyone uploading one? separate email? Is there a place to upload it and i'm just missing the tab or for PASS there is not place for it?

I just referred to each school's website. Some I e-mailed, some I physically mailed.

Is anyone familiar with how many students programs typically interview each cycle? Just a ballpark?

They usually interview 3-4 ppl for 1 spot. Most programs receive 100ish applications every year, interview 15-20 ppl for 3-6 seats. From my experience last year:

UNC: interviewed 12 for 3 seats
WVU: interviewed 11-12 for 2
Rutgers: 15-18 for 5
Columbia: 25 for 6
UConn: 13-14 for 3
Maryland: cant remember

2-3 years ago, UNC invited 12 for interview but only 5 ppl showed up because they interviewed so late in the cycle. As a result the interview: acceptance ratios might change depending on how late the schools interview in the cycle. Hints: schools do interview earlier and earlier every year....:arghh:

Thank you! That gives me a good idea. Interviewing season is so intimidating !

Would anyone know when the preliminary scores for the Adat come out? Do you get it the day of the exam, or in 3-4 weeks?

I received mine in about 2 weeks but there was no notice of score availability. I found them on the DENTPIN website.

Same for me.... just on Dentpin account, So did you send the official score to the programs, or a snapshot from Dentpin account?

I did list all the programs I was applying for when I initially registered for the exam. I've been calling directly to each program to confirm my application package is considered complete. For some of them, I did send a snapshot from Dentpin as a pre-cautionary measure based on the recommendation of the administrative aid.

I sent to some of them after the exam and some with the snapshot....What is your score? any idea on how they will use it since they dont have percentiles yet....

Anybody know if submitting the application by 3rd or 4th week of June is gonna be too late? Still waiting on letters to complete the application. Thanks in advance :)

Best bet would probably be to contact the programs. Some of mine said they would already start reviewing applications and others said they're going to wait a little longer.

This forum seems a little dead compared to back when i applied but I just thought i would pass this along. When i was at the AAE meeting I heard some prospective applicants talking to residents asking them about their programs ect while looking at the poster presentations. I just happened to over hear a girl talking to some residents from West Virginia. She asked the typical questions about what gpa they are looking for and what looks good on an application do you take new grads ect. Their response was basically they look for well rounded applicants that will work hard and be a good fit for the program. Good gpa helps but is only one part of the application. They are open to new grads or candidates with experience. They also said they are now officially a 30 month (2.5 year) program.

So anyway i thought i would pass this along. Just something i over heard but i know back when i applied i was always trying to figure out what type of applicant different programs were looking for.
