Energy lost to friction

I thought the energy lost to friction = (uk)(normal force), but it's actually (normal force)(distance).

Can somebody explain the difference between these two? Am I mixing up static friction and kinetic friction?

it's friction force = uk(normal force)
and energy lost due to friction is = uk(normal force)(distance)
