English as 2nd language: doing verbal and reading passages

Hey all...

Anyone here with English as second language?
How do you practice your verbal? I am having problem with reading fast in general without losing what i've just read. Verbal is my biggest struggle because i never took humanities or social science courses or anything like that. I tend to go back to the passages a lot (well, in fact, most of the times) for verbal, bio and physics.

I am a pharmacist. It's been 5 years now since i've been in school... Never been forced hard like this to read fast and accurate.
