English Requirements

I know a lot of schools are picky about English requirements and my situation is that I received full freshman English credit for my AP scores in high school. So I know specifically BU and Columbia have strict no AP credit requirements, but I believe they say that writing intensive classes will count. I took a writing intensive course last year called Controversies in Biology and apparently the Virology course I want to take next semested is also a writing intensive. Even though they are both science classes will they count? Also, what's the chance of schools waving the English requirements. If I've been given an interview at BU and Columbia does that mean they are okay with my prereqs?
