This is a great story of a good doc who did what what good docs are supposed to do.

Unfortunately, had the patient died, it is possible that the ENT could have been sued.

In todays litigious society, a lot of docs wouldn't have come in because they weren't on call and practice defensive medicine.

scariest part of being an R-2 on my first night on-call (we covered 5 hospitals at that time) was that I realized I was suddenly the airway expert for all 5. Fortunately, I didn't have to use those not-yet-so-expert skills for a while.

Awesome story. I really could sense the frustration of that doc in the ED trying to get help for the airway. Thank God the doc made it in so fast, he knew the patient's fate was up to him.
