Equivalency of Canadian PGY-1 to US PGY-1 for ophtho

Hi guys

Do you know if a PGY-1 year in a Canadian program that has eg. medicine, peds, emergency med,... is equivalent to a US PGY-1 program if one were to apply to a US ophtho program?

or would the applicant have to repeat the whole PGY-1 year?
