If it was two years ago and an isolated incident, you can probably save face by *proving* that you've done some growing up since then. Personally, I doubt that they actually do very detailed background checks, if at all--probably just on those they are going to accept. Basically, they're just covering their bases. I wouldn't let this discourage you from applying there if you're truly interested in attending Iowa.
