Essential Pre-Med Reads

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Okay, so anybody mind if I lay out some rules:

1. You can add any books you like, as long as they are MEDICAL or MEDICALLY RELATED
2. Add books in alphabetical order, please.
3. Please do not delete books without asking everybody first.
4. Only include sub-titles if it all fits on one line

The goal should be to develop this list, but not make it too long, and then keep it as a reference. So when people start new threads about medical books, we can have this list on hand. Also, at least personally I'm going to go through the list and check off the ones I've read and then read the ones I haven't :)

Not to be picky, tigress, but the word "the" shouldn't be used as the first word of the book. Use the second word, like in "The Art of. . ." it should be under the A's. The same thing goes for books that start with "A" or "An."

Other wise it's kind of hard to find the one you're looking for.

Yeah, I know. I used a spreadsheet to alphabetize them and didn't want to take the extra time to put all of the "The" books in their correct place. Maybe I will later though. Now I have to go do laundry and housecleaning

So, I second the book...?

Emergency Doctor: Lewis Goldfrank, MD
-some cases that he's had, pretty interesting

Singular Intimacies: Danielle Ofri, MD
Incidental Findings: Danielle Ofri, MD
-these focus on becoming a good doctor, seen through her patient interactions

I highly recommend these three :)

I read Dr. Ofri's book, Singular Intimacies. I was glad to have read it, because I realized that I could pretty much suck and it wouldn't matter. I couldn't believe the things she did. Crying in the arms of a patient who is comforting you by telling you there's no way she gave you hep? Ughh! I was embarassed reading it.

Thanks for compiling this list! Awesome.

why do men have nipples? hundreds of questions you'd only ask a doctor after your third martini

by mark leyner and billy goldberg :D

does anyone remember the two books the history of medicine professor recommended at the pittsburgh interview day? he said they were essential, but i lost the handout he gave us and forgot the titles. help, anyone?
