Ever fail a course?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I actually have 3 F's on my transcript. I participated in a study abroad program, and had to leave early for a family emergency; however, the sponsoring school would not grant w's. I was so nervous that it would keep me out of medical school, and i'm sure on many of my applications it has kept me from getting an interview, but several schools looked past that.

about a half dozen times in high school. hmmm.....maybe more. thankfully, i got my $hit together upon entering college 😛 😛

i have one D but it still counted as "passing" and i received my units for it. a bunch of interviews, a bunch of waitlists, some rejections, and no acceptances yet.

What were your other stats?

I actually dropped out of high school, and earned my GED when I turned 18 and moved to Tennessee. So while I haven't earned an F so far in college (fingers crossed) I had many, many, many in high school. When I finally left for good in my junior year, I think my GPA was just barely in the 1's. 😱

Although I dropped out for what was, to me, a vaild and worthwhile reason (my mom had a brain tumor, and I took care of her from the time I was 14) I still get treated like I'm inferior, because I didn't graduate. Atleast where I'm from, there's this stigma placed on people who earn their GEDs. I imagine especially on people like me who drop out, then choose to go on to pursue an MD. My academic advisor had the nerve to ask me if I knew there was a difference between being a doctor, and being a nurse. 😡 Hmmm...... If anything, this has just given me more of a thirst to prove myself. Anyone else in the same boat?? If so I'd like to talk to you!!! 🙂

MCAT? What school do you go to? Sorry for all the questions but I aslo have a D and I'm scared.

Fail a class.....hell, I failed 8th grade.🙂

Sarah Kerr, I have a similar background. After failing 8th grade, my family and I moved and I never went back to school. I got my GED when I turned 18 and started college at 24. While the fact that you have a GED is looked down upon now, once you prove yourself in college it makes a great interview topic.😀

I failed Diff-Eq in college, was on academic probation for a semester and got 4 D's and 9 C's, but finally got in after trying 3 times. You can search for my first posts if you want more details...

In my first stint in college, I dropped out during the last quarter of my first year and got two F's because I never turned in my final projects for these classes.

I was really worried about having to report my grades from this experience, but surprisingly it had little to no impact on the response I've gotten from schools.

So, I think if you have a small blemish on your record it's ok as long as it's not a consistent pattern, which it obviously can't be if you have a 3.5 GPA. A family emergency is legit...much more so than not turning in your finals, so I wouldn't worry.

3 F's in a semester at a community college. 3.4 GPA at my 4 year. 3.2 overall from the F's. Two semesters of withdraw due to financial reasons.

5 interviews. 1 acceptance. First time applying.

No. I hope no one has tried in a class, and then failed - that's just sad.

Hope that Helps.

I failed a science class in 8th grade. One of the only times I've ever heard my dad use the F word.
