Recently I happened to be on the Bowdoin College health center website and, apparently, PAs are now called physician associates.

    http://www.bowdoin.edu/health/staff.shtml

I have to say, if I were a PA, I'd rather be called an associate than an assistant any day of the week. Maybe in time the lobby groups can change PA to mean "Physician Actual". Or, my vote, "Physician Authentic".

There's a great story in the gas forum from a guy/gal who was at a party where an NP was introduced as "Doctor" and didn't correct it. Later, in a group of people, it comes out that she was actually an NP, to which someone of course said, "Oh, so you're a nurse then."

Sometime tells me that few PAs will choose to utilize this new nomenclature.

    That reminds me of something...

Dwight: And that's why you have an assistant regional manager.
Michael: Yes it is. Assistant to the regional manager.
    Dwight: [to camera] Same thing.

I'm looking for something to get offended about!!!!!!!:D

If they called themselves Super Space Aliens or anything else, why would it matter? I am endlessly enamored with the things that people on this site managed to be worried about.

I neither wrote that I was offended nor that I was worried. However, I do respect the power of language because there is a perceived difference between the meanings of associate and assistant.

Ask me if I'm worried about my upcoming pathology final, now, that is a definite "yes".
