My brother will be discharged from the USMC this December. He's planning to return to school pre-med in the Spring. Any ex-military out there? How do you think being a vet affected, is affecting, or will affect your candidacy?

Asset, liability, or neither?

I have two friends who are x military. They're both in med school now. I believe that being a vet helps application to any school...

I don't think that it can hurt. As long as he has got the grades and MCAT scores, he should do just fine. Is he interested in doctoring in the military, or happy to be done and out?

He's not interested in military medicine. Very thankful to soon be free again - in fact, he bought a calendar and is marking the days off, one by one (a highlight of his day I might add).

idiot,
i did fine this year when applying to schools. i've been accepted by all the schools where i had an interview. everyone asked about my experiences but they did not dwell on it. each of my friends who have left the military to go to medical school did not have any problems either. just make sure that grades and mcat are competitive. when applying, hit on the strengths of being a non-traditional student.
good luck,
droopy
